The Zone is not only filled with
fun, educational and therapeutic activities that help children, but also has plenty of resources for parents.
The Zone focuses on interactive play, computer and electronic gaming and relaxation to help children and their families cope with the anxiety that often accompanies a child’s hospital stay.
There is a Family Resource Center in The Zone that includes a small library of reference materials and computers for families to research medical terminology or their child’s diagnosis. This space also doubles as a meeting room for support groups.
The Zone is staffed by Child Life Specialists and Activities Therapists trained in meeting the psychosocial needs of children in health care settings. The Zone provides a place for these specialists to work with the children on development activities and provide social and emotional support that the children and their families need.
The 5,000 square foot Zone includes:
- Children’s play space
- Teen space
- Infant and toddler play area
- An outdoor garden
- Parent resource library
- A theater
- A space for community visitors
The Zone is located on the sixth floor across from the Ronald McDonald Family Room.
